Article Abstract:
The continuous search for one's ethnic heritage is true for the Swedes and Finns in the United States. Tracing Finnish and Swedish ancestry is made difficult by intermarriage, the Anglicization of northern European surnames, and the changing of surnames in accordance with old Swedish customs.

Searching for Confederate ancestors
Article Abstract:
Tips in tracing ancestors who may have fought with the Confederate forces during the Civil War are presented. Service records and other documents are available in several sources, such as the Confederate Research Center in Hillsboro, TX, and the National Archives in Washington, D.C.

Placing out in America: the orphan trains
Article Abstract:
Destitute and orphaned children in 19th century New York were taken in by aid societies, and sent for adoption to families in rural regions where livelihood was labor intensive. These orphans' descendants have established societies to help them trace their lineage.
