Federal Travel
Article Abstract:
An illusion of width was created for a narrow space that would be occupied by Federal Travel agency in Peoria, IL. Architect Christopher Frye of Phillipps Swager Associates installed birch plywood arches to create the sense of being in a large warehouse. Agents' desks meet customers from behind partitioned stations between the archers, and are arranged along a curving arc. Lighting fixtures with parabolic lenses provide noninvasive light. The owner's office is separated by a low wall provided with a sliding glass window for a view of the entire office.

Weiss/Wyche residence
Article Abstract:
Design firm Surber Barber Choate & Hertlein Architects raised the roof of a 1950s ranch house and transformed it into a casual and contemporary home. To satisfy the clients' need for space, Surber principal James Choate said they added a second level to create a series of spaces that flow from a two-story-high central volume. The redesigned house has an interior characterized by clean lines with built-in niches, shelves and platforms that serve as the perfect setting for the clients' large primitive art collection.
