Fabric manufacturer Scalamandre Silks Inc has created three lines of textiles distinguished by their level of authenticity to original designs. The reproduction textiles are as close to visual and tactile qualities of the original fabrics. A second line consists ofhsitoric representation where the colors, scales and designs are altered according to existing production methods. A third line of fabrics is referred to as adaptation or reinterpretation with simplified scales and colors.

Stretching tradition
Article Abstract:
Textile manufacturer F. Schumacher specializes in the production of woven fabrics appropriate for residential projects, but its contract division is actively involved in reproduction and adaptation of historic fabric designs. Creme de la Creme is a new fabric line inspired by the 18th and 19th century silk damasks. The adaptation is made of fine worsted wool and Italian silk construction which will be made available incustom colors in 1993.

A Knoll heritage
Article Abstract:
KnollTextiles, founded in 1947 by Florence Knoll, turned to men's suiting fabrics in developing a line of commercial upholstery fabrics. Men's wear fashion designer Jhane Barnes was hired in 1982 to add to KnollTextiles' collection of upholstery fabrics. Barnes is the first fashion designer to cross over to upholstery fabric design. Her minimalist geometric style in textured fabrics blend well with KnollTextiles' lines.
