Further annals of The Sleeping Beauty
Article Abstract:
The history of the annals of The Sleeping Beauty in Russia and the brief history of ballet itself in that country since 1890 are discussed. Tim Scholl, author of 'Sleeping Beauty,' a Legend in Progress, was instrumental in the 1999 reconstruction by the Maryinsky Ballet of the original version of the ballet and his annals include an appendix consisting of translations of texts about the 1890 production, most of them previously unavailable in full in English even in Roland John Wiley's books.

The Royal Ballet now and then
Article Abstract:
Financial difficulties, mismanagement and flawed artistic direction have crippled the UK's Royal Ballet Company. These factors have combined to reduce the number of performances the company presents, robbing dancers of needed work to maintain their skills. The Royal Ballet's earlier years were more fiscally secure and multiple performances in a single day were not uncommon.

Further annals of 'The Sleeping Beauty': Royal Ballet, 2003
Article Abstract:
London's Royal Ballet has been performing versions of 'Sleeping Beauty' since 1946, all of them based on the 1939 Russian production of 'The Sleeping Princess.' The 2003 production, staged by Natalia Makarova, has many elements of the 1952 Kirov Ballet version, although the company should strongly consider relying more on the ballet as it was performed in 1977.
