Matinee
Article Abstract:
American Ballet Theatre principal Alessandra Ferri agrees to allow a writer to watch her prepare for a matinee performance of 'Romeo and Juliet' at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, NY. Ferri arrives two and one-half hours early to prepare for the performance in a dressing room shared with two other ballerinas. She notes that the Metropolitan's large stage does not inhibit the size of performances allowed on smaller stages.

Marilyn Miller at the Elm Tree Inn
Article Abstract:
Marilyn Miller was a 1930s theater dancer whose legend embodied the Ziegfeld Follies in its heyday. The documentary record she left behind did not do justice to her actual abilities. Miller made some 3 films which included some dancing during the talkies' beginning days. These included 'Sunny,' 'Her Majesty, Love' and 'Sally.' The last included a number on the floor of the Elm Tree Inn called 'All I Want to Do Is Dance.'
