1953 Kurtis K500 Indianapolis Roadster: a legend in its own time
Article Abstract:
The Kurtis Roadster became one of four cars to win the Indianapolis 500 two years in a row. Designed and built by Frank Kurtis, the car was driven to victory in 1953 and 1954 by Bill Vukovich. Vukovich raced again in 1955 and was killed in an accident.

The history of a 1953 Porsche Spyder 550 is detailed. The 550-01 made its racing debut in May, 1953, and was joined in Le Mans by the 550-02. The 03 and 04 cars were built later in the year to house a new engine developed by Ernst Fuhrmann.
