The typical consumer believes that today's car prices are exorbitant. While true to some extent, many fail to take into account the fact that higher car prices are largely driven by increasingly stringent federal standards and buyers' higher expectations with regard to performance and creature comforts.

Test results from Consumer Reports showed that a pair of sport-utility vehicles (SUVs) are prone to rolling over and should be recalled by their manufacturer. The test ignores the fact that drivers of SUVs benefit greatly from a high center of gravity, far outweighing the potential for roll overs.
