The GT America regional automobile racing class began when Improved Touring Sports championship driver Steve Archer started a quest for an American car faster than his modified Datsun. The GT America class makes use of American cars with V-8 engines. About 16 have been built toward the end of 1994.

The Sports Car Club of America plans to begin a new racing category in 1992. The category would be known as 'American Sedan' and would include only US cars made in 1979 or later. Specific regulations are detailed.
