Over a year of testing was completed on a 1992 Hyundai Elantra with 23,242 miles logged, a 27.5 mpg rating recorded and at a cost of only 23 cents a mile. In the early stages of the testing, the car needed several repairs but later in the test began to demonstrate more reliability

A long-term test of the Hyundai Elantra has highlighted the car's initial unreliability. During the first months of testing, several repair trips to the dealer were necessary. However, at last report, the car has been trouble-free for approximately 1,000 miles.

The Hyundai Elantra, after 5,025 miles of driving, has proven to be somewhat of a disappointment. The ride quality, fuel economy and price are good, but there was a gear repair problem, and the continual noise is irritating.
