The 1992 Detroit Grand Prix is described. The race was held on Belle Isle, an island located in the Detroit River. Bobby Rahal was the winner, collecting his second win of the season. Other racing news, including the injury to Nelson Piquet in the Indianapolis 500, is also discussed.

Bobby Rahal, with 196 points, was the point leader in the 1992 PPG Industries IndyCar World Series Standings, with Michael Andretti's 192 points qualifying him for a second place finish. The 1992 competition was one of the closest ever.
