A changing China: is China ready for consumer credit?
Article Abstract:
The International Credit Assoc sent a delegation to China in Oct 1987 to discuss consumer credit. Chinese are committed savers; there is demand for durable consumer goods, and the government is cautious about introducing too much consumer credit because it may further increase the overextended demand for consumer goods. The government has introduced competition for consumer loans among the state banks; China is an entirely cash-based society; experiments in debit cards have been hampered by a lack of coherent guidelines. An individual's work unit will act as guarantor for a personal loan; collections are not a problem because of the governments involvement; and the government does not have unique citizen's identification numbers.

Countdown to certification testing
Article Abstract:
The Society of Certified Credit Executives, beginning Apr 1, 1991, will require all applicants for the highest level of certification to pass an examination that evaluates their general understanding of credit. A task force consisting of experienced credit executives developed the examination. The creation of the test required the Society to develop a close relationship with the International Credit Assn (ICA). The test questions are based on the ICA's Comprehensive Credit Manual. The task force is conducting field tests of the examination, and some questions on the test may be modified or eliminated. The first exam sitting will be on May 23, 1991.

Recertify ... why?
Article Abstract:
The Society of Certified Credit Executives is requiring recertification of credit professionals every three years. This can help credit managers cope with a marketplace in which there are too many qualified candidates, but too few available positions. Recertified credit professionals are more likely to deal effectively with a constantly changing environment because they are more involved and have current knowledge of industry developments. Other reasons why credit executives choose recertification are presented.
