A world of opportunity
Article Abstract:
General Electric Co's Chmn and CEO John F. Welch Jr believes that despite the recession, many improvements have occured in the American economy such as the stopping of inflation, reduced interest rates and an 11% annual increase in exports. He encourages businessmen to take advantage of Asia's demand for infrastructure, health care and technology. The North American Free Trade is another opportunity that will open markets in Mexico's booming economy. Welch recommends the elimination of barriers such as bureaucracy, management and race and gender differences that inhibit productivity. American laborers who remain the most productive and skilled on the world, must be encouraged and allowed participate in the solution of company-related problems.

Health care. . . a consumer service industry: opportunity for ICCA?
Article Abstract:
The health care industry is just as much a consumer service industry as retailing, banking, finance, and education, especially now that competition for patients has become an established practice. With medical care costs steadily increasing and more and more patients paying from their own pockets on credit, management executives should consider the potential advantages of mutual cooperation with executives in the banking, finance, and retailing industries. The International Consumer Credit Association (ICCA) could provide the necessary leadership so that coordinated research and study groups could be formed, resulting in industry progress for the health care industry at a minimum cost in executive time and money.
