Nigeria has begun a process of economic and political reform, and is seeking support from the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Nigeria has suffered from corruption, a deteriorating infrastructure amd collapsing social services, despite the country's potential wealth. Olusegun Obasanjo has been elected president, and there are concerns about his attitudes toward privatizations and the IMF program, as well as concerns about the way that some petroleum concessions have been awarded.
