The revolution in government accounting
Article Abstract:
Government accounting in Australia is reforming to reflect accrual-based and whole-government reporting, in light of increasing globalization. The objectives of the reform are to foster a performance culture and to increase responsiveness to government needs. The reforms touch on public service, financial, and workplace relations. Other tools being introduced include market-based and financial tools and streamlining principles-based financial legislation .

New software: making it work
Article Abstract:
The City of Port Phillip in Australia modernized its accounting system with financial management information system software. The system contains general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, purchasing, project costing and fixed assets. It runs on a an HP 9000 with a Unix platofrm and Oracle version 3.1. The City contracted with Computron Software to fulfill all its hardware and software needs.
