Article Abstract:
The year 2004 has witnessed intense focus on corporate governance and oversight of delegated regulators and tax officials. The oversight and enforcement mechanisms undertaken in the backwash that has overtaken the accounting profession following corporate collapses and accounting scandals in Australia not only by the federal government but the FRC and other agencies are discussed.

Unlike in the past, the role of accountants now encompasses additional duty of reporting on environmental aspects. The features and the usage of this report, or the triple bottom line as it is called, are discussed. The difficulties in the assessments of environmental data are highlighted.
