A survey conducted by the Australian Consumers Association (ACA) and the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC), highlighted problems with off the shelf advice. The results of the survey states that only two out of 124 plans reviewed, were considered 'very good' and 15 percent of advisors did not supply their client with an advisory service guide.

No accounting for convenience
Article Abstract:
The CPA Australia has developed a licensing framework for Multi-Disciplinary Practices (MDPs) to encourage the development of practices offering more than general accounting services. This framework would enable a practitioner to expand their CPA designation to other business services, such as IT and finance broking.

To fee or not to fee
Article Abstract:
If the advice is commission based the client writes only one cheque and the financial planner gets the commission from the fund manager. The issue of separating advice from product recommendations plays an important role in promoting fee-based advice.
