A comparative study of the incorporation of a 1,6-beta-glucan and an O-glycosylated protein epitope into the cell wall of Candida albicans
Article Abstract:
Two mAbs were used to map the topological location of the corresponding antigens in the cell walls of Candida albicans and to determine how their organization in the walls is affected by different antibiotics. The mAbs are 1B12, which is specific for an epitope present in an O-glycosylated mannoprotein, and JRR1, which reacts against a 1,6-beta-glucosyl residue. The first antigen is directly or indirectly linked to the glucan, mannoproteins and chitin of the wall and is found on the wall's outer surface. The second epitope is partially exposed in mycelial cells and is located below the surface in yeast cells.

Identification of glucan-mannoprotein complexes in the cell wall of Candida albicans using a monoclonal antibody that reacts with a (1,6)-beta-glucan epitope
Article Abstract:
A glucan-mannoprotein complex is present between the (1,6)-beta-glucan epitope in the cell wall of Candida albicans. The epitope is recognized by the monoclonal antibody used in the study and the cell wall mannoproteins. The results of this study also show that there is a direct link between the protein moity of the cell wall mannoproteins and (1,6)-beta-glucan epitope. The (1,6)-beta-glucan present inside an inner layer of the cell wall is accessible only after the outer wall is acted upon by tunicamycin.

Monoclonal antibody 3H8: a useful tool in the diagnosis of candidiasis
Article Abstract:
One of the six mAbs, called 3H8, obtained against cell wall extracts of Candida albicans ATCC 26555, was utilized for the production of a commercial kit for the rapid diagnosis of candidiasis. This mAb was generated and characterized as an immunoglobulin G1 which recognizes mannoproteins of high molecular mass found in the C. albicans cell wall. The 3H8 epitope is localized at the external surface of C. albicans ATCC 26555, while it is partially cryptic in the cell wall in other C. albicans strains.
