Cloning and characterization of the xyl1 gene, encoding an NADH-preferring xylose reductase from Candida parapsilosis, and its functional expression in Candida tropicalis
Article Abstract:
Research describes cloning of Candida parapsilosis mutant strain KFCC-10875xyl1 gene encoding an NADH-preferring xylose reductase and its expression in the yeast Candida tropicalis, which is used in the industrial production of xylitol. The xylose reductase from C. parapsilosis exhibits a dual coenzyme specificity.

Nuclease activity of Saccharomyces cerevisiae Mre11 functions in targeted nucleotide alteration
Article Abstract:
Research demonstrates the importance of nuclease activity associated with the gene used in targeted nucleotide exchange studies aimed at reengineering yeast genes. Data indicate that Saccharomyces cerevisiae Mre11 gene is endowed with the nuclease activity.
