The molecular architecture of odor and pheromone sensing in mammals
Article Abstract:
Different sensory neurons and different neural pathways in the brain appear to be involved in the sensing of general odors and pheromones. This is critical because pheromones regulate behavior in many animals.

Feedback loops link odor and pheromone signaling with reproduction
Article Abstract:
A genetic transneuron tracer was used to identify neurons that synapse with GnRH (LHRH) neurons, the key regulators of reproduction in order to investigate the neural circuits underlying the effects of pheromone on reproductive psychology and behavior in mammals. The results revealed a complex interplay between reproduction and other functions in which GnRH neurons appear to integrate information from multiple sources and modulate a variety of brain functions.

A multigene family encoding a diverse array of putative pheromone receptors in mammals
Article Abstract:
A multigene family that encodes a diverse array of putative pheromone receptors expressed by Galpha0+ subset has been identified through gene expression comparisons in single neurons. Varying pheromone receptor expressions indicate distributed sensory coding. Chromosome mapping also reveals the relation between volatile odorant receptors and pheromone receptor encoding genes.
