A neuronal isoform of the Aplysia CPEB has prion-like properties
Article Abstract:
Research shows that a neuronal member of the cytoplasmic polyadenylation element binding protein (CPEB) exhibit prion-like properties and regulates mRNA translation. The N-terminal domain of the Aplysia neuronal CPEB protein displays characteristics of yeast prions. Results suggest that conversion of CPEB to a prion-like state in stimulated synapses aids in memory storage.

Phosphorylation of RIM1alpha by PKA triggers presynaptic long-term potentiation at cerebellar parallel fiber synapses
Article Abstract:
The induction mechanism of long-term potentiation (LTP) in cerebellar parallel fiber synapses is mediated by presynaptic activation of protein kinase A. Research shows that presynaptic LTP requires active zone protein RIM1alpha and its phosphorylation for inducing presynaptic LTP. Data indicate that the phosphorylated occurs at N-terminus of RIM1alpha.

Phosphorylation of the AMPA receptor GluR1 subunit is required for synaptic plasticity and retention of spatial memory
Article Abstract:
Research shows that phosphorylation of the GluR1 receptor is crucial for the expression of long-term potentiation (LTP) and long-term depression (LTD) characteristics and for memory retention as shown by mice deficient in GluR1 phosphorylation sites. The mutant mice lack both LTP and LTD and memory defects in spatial learning skills.
