A small modulatory dsRNA specifies the fate of adult neural stem cells
Article Abstract:
The expression of cell type-specific differentiation genes depends on positive as well as negative gene controls and the important effect of a small noncoding double stranded (ds) RNA in mediating neuronal differences. It was found that the mechanism of action is mediated through siRNA or miRNA, which means that noncoding RNAs, are key regulators of cell behavior at both transcriptional as well as post-transcriptional levels.

The notch transcription activation complex makes its move
Article Abstract:
The crystal structure of the Notch Transcriptional activation complex is reported. These structures show that the ANK domain of Notch is an integral part of the transcription complex and supports MAM binding, whereas the RAM domain may trigger allosteric changes in the structure needed for the derepression of transcription.

Gap peptides: A new way to control embryonic patterning?
Article Abstract:
Gap genes encode transcription factors that are involved in the patterning of the head-tail axis of insect embryos. A study identifies mille-pattes (mlpt), a beetle gap gene that encodes an unusual polycistronic transcript predicted to produce four conserved peptides.
