Amino acid sequences of porcine Sp38 and proacrosin required for binding to the zona pellucida
Article Abstract:
An 11-amino acid sequence in a boar sperm protein called sp38 is necessary for binding of the protein to zona pellucida glycoproteins. The sequence is similar to an 8-amino acid sequence in pig proacrosin. Binding of both of these proteins can be blocked by peptides containing these sequences. Sp38 occurs in the intraacrosomal region and is released during the acrosome reaction when the sperm cell attaches to the zona pellucida.
