Anaerobic ammonium-oxidizing (anammox) bacteria and associated activity in fixed-film biofilters of a marine recirculating aquaculture system
Article Abstract:
Microbial communities in the biological filter and waste sludge compartments of a marine recirculating aquaculture system are examined to determine the presence and activity of anaerobic ammonium-oxidizing (anammox) bacteria. It is the first identification of anammox-related sequences in a marine recirculating aquaculture filtration system, and the findings provide a foundation for incorporating this important pathway for complete nitrogen removal in such systems.

Persistence, transmission, and virulence characteristics of Aeromonas strains in a duckweed aquaculture-based hospital sewage water recycling plant in Bangladesh
Article Abstract:
The study about the persistence and transmission of Aeromonas in a duckweed aquaculture-based hospital sewage water treatment plant in Bangladesh indicate that certain phenotypical and genotypical stable clonal lineages of Aeromonas might spread from the hospitalized children suffering from diarrhea to fish produced for human consumption through the sewage water treatment system.
