A critical role of sterols in embryonic patterning and meristem programming revealed by the fackel mutants of Arabidopsis thaliana
Article Abstract:
A role of sterols in embryonic patterning and meristem programming has been found to be critical as can be seen from the fackel mutants of Arabidopsis thaliana. A novel Arabidopsis dwarf mutant, fackel J79 has been studied. Its adult morphology is like that of brassinosteroid-deficient mutants. Embryos are distorted, roots are distorted, and there are supernumerary cotyledons and multiple shoot meristems.

Analysis of Arabidopsis glucose insensitive mutants, gin5 and gin6, reveals a central role of the plant hormone ABA in the regulation of plant vegetative development by sugar
Article Abstract:
Arabidopsis glucose-insensitive mutants, gin5 and gin6, have been isolated and characterized based on glucose-induced developmental arrest in early seedling morphogenesis with the finding that plant hormone abscisic acid (ABA) has a key part in regulation of plant vegetative development by sugar. Sugars have signaling roles in a variety of developmental processes in plants.

The chimeric leucine-rich repeat/extension cell wall protein LRX1 is required for root hair morphogenesis in Arabidopsis thaliana
Article Abstract:
The molecular/functional characterization of LRX1 (LRR/EXTENSIN), a new Arabidopsis thaliana gene that encodes a chimeric extracellular protein with both a leucine-rich repeat (LRR) and an extensin protein domain, is discussed. The chimeric leucine-rich repeat/extension cell wall protein LRX1 has been found to be necessary for root hair morphogenesis in Arabidopsis.
