Analysis of sigma(super.54)-dependent genes in Enterococus faecalis: a mannose PTS permease (EII(super.Man)) is involved in sensitivity to a bacteriocin, mesentericin Y105
Article Abstract:
Analysis of sigma(super.54)-dependent genes in Enterococus faecalis has been undertaken. A mannose PTS permease (EII(super.Man)) has been found to be involved in sensitivity to mesentericin Y105, a bacteriocin. It may be that MptD is responsible for the targeting specificity through an interaction between its additional domain and mesentericin Y105. EII is a PTS permease active in transport and accompanying phosphorylation of sugars. EII(sub.t)(super.Man) is clearly involved in susceptibility to mesentericin Y105 and may be its receptor on the E. faecalis surface.

Suppression of thermosensitive peptidyl-tRNA hydrolase mutation in Escherichia coli by gene duplication
Article Abstract:
Thermosensitive peptidyl-tRNA hydrolase (Pth) mutation and its suppression in Escherichia coli by gene duplication have been studied. In some conditions of selection and in some strain backgrounds high rates of reversion to thermoresistance exist. High rates of reversion are caused by duplication of the pth(ts) gene.
