Assessment of intraspecific variation in half-sibs of Quercus petraea (Matt.) Liebl. 'plus' trees
Article Abstract:
Quercus petraea (Matt.) Liebl. or sessile oak is one of various selected 'plus' trees, especially desirable ones, being introduced to improve and add to authenticity of certain forest sites in Belgium. It is important to take into account genetic diversity of the trees. The sessile oak is long-lived, widespread and has forest rotation cycles quite a lot longer than those of many other European forestry species. The pool of investigated progenies were found by analysis to have quite a lot of genetic variation. Half-sibs of several plus trees were analyzed using RAPD and AFLP techniques.

Gene flow and hybridisation in a mixed oak forest (Quercus pyrenaica Willd. and Quercus petraea (Matts.) Liebl.) in central Spain
Article Abstract:
A mixed population of two species is selected to compare the patterns of gene flow within each species and the extent of introgression between them. Similar immigration rates for both species are found, so the scattered Quercus petraea in the area does not imply greater isolation than for Quercus pyrenaica, which is growing in its core range.

Differences in fine-scale genetic structure and dispersal in Quercus ilex L. and Q. suber L.: consequences for regeneration of Mediterranean open woods
Article Abstract:
A study to explain the various differences in the fine-scale genetic structure and the dispersal in the tree species, cork oak (Quercus suber L.) and holm oak (Quercus ilex L.) is conducted. Findings show a very effective dispersal for holm oak (Quercus ilex L.), with a local historical gene flow of about 55 to 95 million.
