Autonomous endodermal determination in Xenopus: regulation of expression of the pancreatic gene X1Hbox 8
Article Abstract:
The regulation of the pancreatic gene X1Hbox 8 is explained by a model where predisposal of dorsovegetal cells center occurs for autonomous X1Hbox 8 expression. This due to an early signal from the Nieuwkoopin center and occurs in a region of high local activin ligand concentration and low relative concentrations of bFGF which is a negative regulator. Mesodermal marker expression is induced in vegetal explants by bFGF.

The chick Brachyury gene: developmental expression pattern and response to axial induction by localized activin
Article Abstract:
The Brachyury gene (T) is necessary for the formation of the posterior part of the mouse embryo. The chick homologue of T(Ch-T) is found in the tail bud and the notochord and its expression decreases as the body becomes completely formed. The treatment of the prestreak blastoderms with activin A results in ectopic Ch-T expression that forms second primitive streaks or a repositioning of the streak origin.
