Bacterial community structure and diversity in a century-old manure-treated agroecosystem
Article Abstract:
Studies done to examine 16S rRNA gene fingerprints of bacterial communities in six agroecosystems by PCR amplification and denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (PCR-DGGE) separation are presented. Findings of the study suggested that bacterial diversity in agricultural soils was substantially different from that in uncultivated soils in a geothermal heating environment. It was observed that manure application increased soil bacterial diversity and resulted in a more even distribution than that in soil given inorganic fertilizer treatments and in an untreated control soil.

Diversity of bacteria associated with natural aphid populations
Article Abstract:
The microbiodata of aphids by two PCR based methods that are terminal restriction fragment length polymorphism (T- RELP) and denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) analysis of amplified 165 rRNA gene fragments that are used widely for the analysis of microbial communities are investigated. The results indicate that the accessory bacterial taxa are distributed across multiple aphid species, although with variable prevalence and the laboratory culture does not generally result in a shift in the bacterial community in aphids.

Biomass and microbial composition of a microbial mat, a combined lipid biomarker-16S rRNA gene denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis analysis is described to monitor changes in the physiological status. Results reveal differences in major groups of microorganisms, including green nonsulfur, gram-positive and heterotrophic bacteria.
