Use of a flexible casette method to generate a double unmarked Mycobacterium tuberculosis tlyA plcABC mutant by gene replacement
Article Abstract:
Construction of a double mutant of Mycobacterium tuberculosis deficient in phospholipase C production and haemolysin encoding capablity is described. Results point out that the flexible cassette technique facilitates mutant generation without the use of antibiotic resistance markers.

The senX3-regX3 two-component regulatory system of Mycobacterium tuberculosis is required for virulence
Article Abstract:
Results demonstrate that the two-component senX3-regX3 regulon mediates the virulence of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Mutational analysis indicates that M. tuberculosis with the deletion of the senX3-regX3 system shows attenuation in macrophages and in immunocompromised and immunocompetent mice. Data reveal 50 genes for the senX3-regX3 regulon.

Characterization of a haemolysin from Mycobacterium tuberculosis with homology to a virulence factor of Serpulina hyodysenteriae
Article Abstract:
The Mycobacterium tuberculosis gene coding for a hemolysin was identified and sequenced using primers from a homologous gene in M. leprae. The M. tuberculosis hemolysin is also homologous to the virulence-determining pore forming hemolysin of Serpulina hyodysenteriae. Homologs of this gene are found in other Mycobacterial species but not in non-hemolytic strains. Heterologous expression of the gene in non-hemolytic strains imparted a hemolytic activity in these strains.
