Characterization of an 8.7-kilobase thiostrepton resistance-encoding plasmid(pGIF3) of Streptomyces incarnatus
Article Abstract:
The first Streptomyces plasmid carrying antibiotic resistance genes was characterized. The plasmid, designated pGIF3, originated from S. incarnatus, and carries thiostrepton resistance, although this strain does not produce thiostrepton. Hybridization studies showed that inS. incarnatus, pGIF3 has a size of 8.7-kb and is part of a larger replicon. However, the pock-forming ability and thiostrepton resistance are carried within the 8.7-kb pGIF3, which is also capable of autonomous replication.

Partial characterization of the Streptomyces lividans xlnB promoter and its use for expression of a thermostable xylanase from Thermotoga maritima
Article Abstract:
A xynalase gene that is 99% identical to the xlnB gene from Streptomyces lividans was cloned from Streptomyces coelicolor to identity the promoter of the gene and its function in the expression of a thermostable xylanase from Thermotoga maritima. The promoter of the xlnB was determined by using transcriptional fusion between the 5' region of the gene and the xylE reporter gene. Results suggest that either oatspelt or birchwood xylan efficiently induces the expression of xlnB.

Auxofuran, a novel metabolite that stimulates the growth of fly agaric, is produced by the mycorrhiza helper bacterium Streptomyces strain AcH 505
Article Abstract:
The dominant fungal-growth-promoting substance produced by the mycorrhiza helper bacterium Streptomyces strain AcH 505, auxofuran, is isolated and its effect on the levels of gene expression of Amanita muscaria is investigated. The characterization has provided the foundation for molecular analysis of the fungus-bacterium interaction in the ectomycorrhizal symbiosis between fly agaric and spruce.
