Characterization of the dopa decarboxylase gene of manduca sexta and its suppression by 20-hydroxyecdysone
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to characterize the Manduca sexta dopa decarboxylase (DDC) cDNA and the 5' promoter region of the DDC gene and compare it with Drosophila DDC. Synthesis methods revealed suppressed transcription of the DDC gene in the presence of 2-hydroecdysone. Absence of DDC mRNA resulted to elevated expression of nuclear protein, but low before the rise and decline of ecdosteroid titer. This suggests that this protein produces a transcription factor that suppresses DDC transcription.
