Clinical and veterinary isolates of Salmonella enterica serovar Enteritidis defective in lipopolysaccharide O-chain polymerization
Article Abstract:
The genetic basis for the O-chain variability of the clinical and veterinary isolates of Salmonella enterica serovar Enteritidis is investigated by studying the effects of a null mutation in the chain length determinant gene wzz of serovar Typhimurium. Twelve human and chicken isolates of Salmonella enterica serovar Enteritidis that belong to phage types 4, 8, 13a and 23 were characterized for variability in lipopolysaccharide O-chain polymerization. Results suggest that naturally occurring variability in the isolates can be applied to subtype isolates of serovar Enteritidis during epidemiological studies.

Comparison of Salmonella enterica serovar typhimurium LT2 and non-LT2 Salmonella genomic sequences, and genotyping of Salmonellae by using PCR
Article Abstract:
Genes of Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium LT2 expected to be specifically present in Salmonella were selected using the Basic Local Alignment Search Tool (BLAST) program and compared with genomic sequences of Salmonella serovars, including Salmonella enterica subsp. I and IIIb and Salmonella bongori (V). Analysis of PCR results showed that Salmonella enterica subsp. I was critically divided from other subspecies, and Salmonella strains belonging to S. enterica subsp. I were clustered based on their serovars.

Genomic comparisons of Salmonella enterica serovar Dublin, Agona, and Typhimurium strains recently isolated from milk filters and bovine samples from Ireland, using a Salmonella microarray
Article Abstract:
The Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium LT2 microarray is used to identify genomic regions of divergence in a range of serovar Dublin, Agona and Typhimurium isolates that were recovered from bovine and milk filter samples in southern Ireland. The results show that only limited intraserovar diversity was seen among the nine serovar Dublin, three serovar Agona and six serovar Typhimurium, despite their geographic, temporal and source differences.
