Comparison of factors influencing trichloroethylene degradation by toluene-oxidizing bacteria
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted on the influences of environmental conditions and physiological properties of individual strains on the degradation of trichloroethylene (TCE) by toluene-oxidizing bacteria. TCE degradation levels by strains were compared under aerobic or hypoxic conditions in the absence of nitrate and lactate. Quantitative aspects of the degradation were linked to the mechanism for toluene oxidation, electron donor and acceptor availability, growth conditions and the ability to denitrify. TCE was also found to induce toluene oxygenase activity in the Burkholderia pickettii strain.

Multiple pathways for toluene degradation in Burkholderia sp. strain JS150
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted on the monooxygenases from the Burkholderia sp strain JS150 which hydtroxylate aromatic compounds. Restriction mapping and southern blotting reveal the differences between the genes for the individual 4-monooxygenases. Results also suggest that strain JS150 initiate toluene metabolism with at least three toluene/benzene monooxygenases in addition to the toluene dioxygenase identified in previous studies.

Cross-regulation of toluene monooxygenases by the transcriptional activators TbmR and TbuT
Article Abstract:
Microbiological research suggests that toluene/benzyme-2 monooxygenase enzyme from the microorganism Burkholderia pickettii PK01 and toluene-3-monooxygenase enzyme from Burkholderia (Pseudomonas) sp. strain JS150 are expressed under the control of similar regulatory biochemicals. The cognate regulators TbuT and TbmR have established transcriptional activation of PtbuA1 and PtbmA promotors.
