Computerized genetic map of Bacillus subtilis
Article Abstract:
Bacillus subtilis is a Gram-positive bacteria that has been extensively characterized, genetically and physiologically, because of its usefulness in medical and industrial research. One of the most significant accomplishments in B. subtilis research is the creation of a software program designed to draw the B. subtilis genetic map automatically based on information in the database of the Microbial Advanced Database Organization. The genetic map provides information on the origin of chromosome replication, the position of a gene, distance between genes and nomenclature.

Single-crossover integration in the Lactobacillus sake chromosome and insertional inactivation of the ptsI and lacL genes
Article Abstract:
Single-crossover homologous integration in Lactobacillus sake was investigated. Integration was performed with nonreplicative delivery vector pRV300. This vector has a pBluescript SK- replicon for propagation in Escherichia coli and an erythromycin resistance marker. Random chromosomal DNA fragments of L. sake were inserted into pRV300 and the resulting plasmids were capable of integrating into the chromosome by homologous recombination as single copies and were maintained stably. Results showed that the above technique makes genetic analysis of L. sake easier.

Phenotypic and genotypic characterization of non-starter lactic acid bacteria in mature cheddar cheese
Article Abstract:
Strains of Lactobacillus paracasei appear to be very diverse, according to an analysis of 331 isolates of non-starter lactic acid bacteria from mature cheddar cheese. Most isolates from premium-quality cheese clustered together, as did isolates from defective-quality cheese.
