DNA fingerprints by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis to investigate a nosocomial pneumonia caused by 'Legionella bozemanii' serogroup 1
Article Abstract:
A comparison of a patient strain with two environmental strains taken from the hospital water supply indicate that Legionella bozemanii is transmitted from the water to the patient, and acts as a source for nosocomial legionellosis causing nosocomial pneumonia. The strains of L.bozemanii serogroup 1 available from clinical and environmental sources after subtyping with pulsed-field gel electrophoresis, show heterogeneous genomic DNA structure using either the SfiI or NotI restriction enzyme.

Detection of Legionella spp. in cooling tower water by the polymerase chain reaction method
Article Abstract:
A polymerase chain reaction is used to investigate the presence of legionella spp. in cooling tower water. 20-mr 5S rRNA complementary DNA sequence primers detect the total legionella spp., and the specilfic legionella pneumophila is detected with 20-mer and then 21-mer macrophage infectivity potentiator gene sequence primers. Twenty-five were positive for legionella spp., and 14 of the 27 cooling tower water samplescontained L. pneumophila.

Legionella contamination in hot water of Italian hotels
Article Abstract:
A cross-sectional multicenter survey of Italian hotels is conducted to investigate Legionella spp. contamination of hot water. Results reveal that the Italian hotels, particularly those located in old buildings, represent a major source of risk for Legionnaires disease due to the high frequency of Legionella contamination, high germ concentration, and major Legionella pneumophila serogroup 1 colonization.
