Evolution of nitrogen fixation in spatially structured populations of Rhizobium
Article Abstract:
Spatially structured populations of Rhizobium and evolution of nitrogen fixation in these populations are discussed. Spatial structure is needed for the evolution of N-fixation. N-fixation is more likely to evolve with increasing degrees of spatial structure. Conditions for coexistence of N-fixing bacteria and nonfixing bacteria expand where there is a saturating relationship between module numbers and N-fixing genotype frequency.

The evolution of senescence under curtailed life span in laboratory populations of Musca domestica (the housefly)
Article Abstract:
Evolution of senescence has been studied in laboratory populations of Musca domestica with curtailed life span. No evidence for a trade-off between longevity and age age at sexual maturity, developmental time or dry body weight was found, but it appears there was a trade-off between longevity and early progeny production supporting antagonistic pleiotropy.

Direct and correlated responses to selection on JHE activity in adult and juvenile Gryllus assimilis: implications for stage-specific evolution of insect endocrine traits
Article Abstract:
Implications for stage-specific evolution of insect endocrine traits are discussed relative to direct, correlated responses to selection on juvenile hormone esterase (JHE) activity in adult and juvenile Gryllus assimilis, a cricket. A consistent picture of strong within-stage JHE correlated responses has been seen in either juvenile or adult stages, as have strong correlated responses to selection on JHE activity in different adult periods.
