Divergence of melanocortin pathways in the control of food intake and energy expenditure
Article Abstract:
A loxP-modified, null melanocortin-4-receptors (MC4R) allele that can be reactivated by Cre-recombinanse is generated to identify the functionality relevant sites of MC4R expression. The findings reveal that MC4Rs in the paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus and/or the amygdala control food intake but that MC4Rs elsewhere control energy expenditure.

Defects in adaptive energy metabolism with CNS-linked hyperactivity in PGC-1 alpha null mice
Article Abstract:
PGC-alpha is a coactivator of nuclear receptors and other transcription factors that regulates several metabolic processes, including mitochondrial biogenesis and respiration, hepatic gluconeogenesis, and muscle fiber-type switching. The central role for PGC-1 alpha in the control of energy metabolism is illustrated.
