Dual role for Drosophila epidermal growth factor receptor signaling in early wing disc development
Article Abstract:
Epidermal growth factor (EGF) receptor signaling in early wing disc development in Drosophila and its dual role are discussed in this research communication. It has been shown that EGF-receptor signaling stimulated by its ligand, Vein, has a vital role in regulating two cell fate choices.

Drosophila Brain Tumor is a translational repressor
Article Abstract:
Brain Tumor has been shown to be a translational repressor in Drosophila. Brain Tumor has been shown to be recruited to hunchback (hb) mRNA through interactions with Nanos and Pumilio. They bind to the RNA to repress its translation. The role of Brat in two processes, regulation of maternal Cyclin B mRNA in the embryo and regulation of imaginal disc development, has been studied. Drosophila brain tumor (brat) is a gene that encodes a member of the conserved NHL protein family which seems to regulate differentiation/growth.

EGF domain swap converts a Drosophila EGF receptor activator into an inhibitor
Article Abstract:
Epidermal growth factors (EGF) emerge as the main contributors in determining the significant properties of Drosophila receptors' inhibitors and activators.The experiment involved the zygotic modulation of the receptor using the proteins Spitz, Vein and Argos. Swapping the EGF domain of each factor with the Vein factor modified the Vein proteins. Their in vitro and in vivo behavior tallied with the domain from where the EGF was obtained.
