Effect of methodology on the tuberculocidal activity of a glutaraldehyde-based disinfectant
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to examine the mycobactericidal efficacy of an alkaline glutaraldehyde solution using two methods. Mycobacterium tuberculosis was the strain chosen as a test strain since it is pathogenic and more resistant to disinfectants than M smegmatis. CIDEX was the disinfectant used. Results show that data derived with the BACTEC method are not comparable to those derived with a membrane filtration assay when the activity of disinfectants against mycobacteria is evaluated.

Escherichia coli behavior in the presence of organic matter released by algae exposed to water treatment chemicals
Article Abstract:
The study examined whether algal organic matter (AOM) added in drinking water can compromise water biological stability by supporting bacterial survival. AOM, likely to be present in treatment plants during algal blooms, and thus potentially in the treated water may compromise water biological stability.

Mycobacterium xenopi and drinking water biofilms
Article Abstract:
The ability of Mycobacterium xenopi to colonize an experimental drinking water distribution system was investigated. Mycobacterium xenopi was present in the biofilm within an hour following its introduction, and always present in the outlet water and inside the biofilm, after a period of nine weeks.
