Effectiveness of enterobacterial repetitive intergenic consensus PCR and random amplified polymorphic DNA fingerprinting for Helicobacter pylori strain differentiation
Article Abstract:
The robustness and discriminatory power of the enterobacterial repetitive intergenic consensus (ERIC) and random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) fingerprinting methods were compared for detecting cases of mixed Helicobacter pylori infection in Peruvian shantytown residents. It was found that three RAPD test were required to achieve the discriminatory power of one ERIC test and that at least half of infected shantytown residents carried more then one Helicobacter pylori strain.

Development of an internal control for evaluation and standardization of a quantitative PCR assay for detection of Helicobacter pylori in drinking water
Article Abstract:
The 135-bp amplicon is modified at the probe binding region by using PCR mutagenesis in order to detect Helicobacter pylori cells in drinking water. The treated drinking water samples spiked with Helicobacter pylori have shown similar cycle threshold values if the chlorine disinfectant is first neutralized by sodium thiosulfate.
