Effects of nondigestible oligosaccharides on Salmonella enterica servoar typhimurium and nonpathogenic Escherichia coli in the pig small intestine in vitro
Article Abstract:
Feeding pigs nondigestible oligosaccharides can reduce the incidence of Escherichia coli and Salmonella enterica infections. This is important because the use of antibiotics in feed animals has been linked to the development of antibiotic resistance in bacteria. For this reason, farmers need to find an alternative to antibiotics.

Nondigestible oligosaccharides enhance bacterial colonization resistance against Clostridium difficile in vitro
Article Abstract:
Research indicates that the nondigestible oligosaccharides stimulate bifidobacterial growth but inhibit Clostridium difficile growth in fecal cultures as determined by the latter's population decrease. Data indicate that the C. difficile population reduction is not due to bifidobacteria, suggesting that nondigestible oligosaccharides enhance colonization resistance in C. difficile.

Effects of physical properties of feed on microbial ecology and survival of Salmonella enterica Serovar Typhimurium in the pig gastrointestinal tract
Article Abstract:
An experiment is conducted with pigs as the main subjects to see the effect of feed grinding and feed processing on the survival of Salmonella enterica Serovar Typhimurium in the pig's gastrointestinal tract. It is seen that when the pigs fed on a coarser meal survival of Salmonella decreased.
