Embryonic origin of amphibian taste buds
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to examine the embryogenesis of amphibian taste buds using exogenous application of lipophilic dye on labeled tissues. Analysis of the pigmented cells revealed pigmented epibranchial placodes and neural crest but absence of pigmented taste buds, suggesting that epibranchial placodes and neural crests are not involved in the development of taste buds. However, it is suggested that myogenesis of taste buds can be observed by examining the endodermal epithelium.

Evidence for a 90 kDa heat-shock protein gene expression in the amphibian oocyte
Article Abstract:
A 90 kDA heat shock protein gene has been isolated from the amphibian Pleurodeles waltl. This gene, called Pw90, is part of the cognate gene hsc90 and is expressed during oogenesis. It is closely related to the hsp90 gene in other animals. High levels of its protein product can be found in the early stages of oogenesis in this amphibian. It occurs in the cytoplasm initially, but moves into the nucleus during later stages.

Sperm from mice carrying one or two t haplotypes are deficient in investment and oocyte penetration
Article Abstract:
IVF assay studies on mice sperm carrying one t haplotype, t(w5), or two t haplotypes, t(w5) and t(w32), reveal the presence of loci influencing sperm functions in these haplotypes. The ability for zone penetration is reduced in t(w5)/+ sperm, while the t(w5)/t(w32) sperm bind inefficiently to the zona and oolemma. These factors influence the sterility and transmission ratio in the mice.
