Erwinia carotovora has two KdgR-like proteins belonging to the IcIR family of transcriptional regulators: identification and characterization of the RexZ activator and the KdgR repressor of pathogenesis
Article Abstract:
The identification, cloning and characterization of an Erwinia carotovora regulatory gene, designated rexZ, are described. The construction of an E. carotovora rexZ mutants described by reverse genetics and the analysis of the E. carotovora rexZ mutant phenotype with respect to synthesis of depolymerizing enzymes. Results demonstrate that the complex regulatory network governing virulence in the erwinias involves two totally distinct, but highly conserved, members of the IcIR class of DNA binding proteins, namely, RexZ and KdgR.

Mosaic structure of Shiga-toxin-2-encoding phages isolated from Escherichia coli O157:H7 indicates frequent gene exchange between lambdoid phage genomes
Article Abstract:
Shiga-toxin-2-encoding phages isolated from Escherichia coli O157:H7 have been studied relative to mosaic structure with the finding that frequent gene exchange between lambdoid phage genomes probably occurs. Restriction enzyme analysis, hybridization with probes for toxin genes and selected phage DNA such as the P gene, integrase gene and IS1203 were used for characterization. PCR studies and partial sequencing of selected DNA regions in the integrase to the stx(sub.2) region of the phages were used.

Identification of novel loci involved in entry by legionella pneumophila
Article Abstract:
Results demonstrate that cosmids derived from laboratory cultures of the Legionella pneumophila mutants exhibiting enhanced-entry phenotype possess three loci involved in the pathogen entry mechanism.
