Evidence of a hydrolytic route for anaerobic cyanide degradation
Article Abstract:
An investigation was conducted to elucidate the anaerobic biochemical pathways occuring during biological waste treatment of cyanide-contaminated industrial wastes. The results showed that the primary end products of cyanide transformation are formate and/or bicarbonate. Higher rates of cyanide transformation was associated with bicarbonate bubbles, which could also be formed from formate or formamide. These results suggest that hydrolysis pathways present in aerobic systems also occur during anaerobic cyanide transformation.

Purification and characterization of an enantioselective amidase from Pseudomonas chlororaphis B23
Article Abstract:
Standard techniques help purify an amidase generated by Pseudomonas chlororaphis B23. Analysis of the enzyme reveals the molecular weight as 105 kDa. Activity of the enzyme is optimum at 50 degrees Celsius and at pH values ranging from 7.0 to 8.6. The enzyme activity does not require metal ions and various thiol reagents inhibit the activity of the enzymes. Broad substrate specificity is observed for the enzyme and it exhibits enantioselectivity for various aromatic amides.

Bacterial degradation of cyanide and its metal complexes under alkaline conditions
Article Abstract:
A bacterial isolate that is able to grow by using cyanide as the sole nitrogen source under alkaline conditions and acetate as the C source is reported. The result suggests that cyanate could be an intermediate in the cyanide degradation pathway.
