Factors affecting lactate and malate utilization by Selenomonas ruminantium
Article Abstract:
A research was conducted to investigate the use of lactate plus malate over time by Selenomonas ruminantium in batch culture. Gas washing bottles were used in conducting batch culture fermentations while bacterial growth was monitored by determining optical density with a spectrophotometer. Results indicated that succinate accumulated when two strains of S. ruminantium fermented lactate plus malate. It also suggested that succinate will not accumulate in the rumen during the presence of malate.

Specific PCR assay for tannin-tolerant selenomonas ruminantium isolate, derived from helicase coding sequences
Article Abstract:
A study is conducted to describe sequences from a tannin-tolerant selenomonas ruminatium isolate (EAT2) that hydrolyzes gallic acid. The results confirm the effectiveness and ease of application of the SSH technique for isolating sequences differing between bacterial isolates within a species, relative to earlier subtractive methods.

CelAB, a multifunctional cellulase encoded by Teredinibacter turnerae [T7902.sup.T], a culturable symbiont isolated from the wood-boring marine bivalve Lyrodus pedicellatus
Article Abstract:
The characterization of a multifunctional cellulase (CelAB) encoded by the endosymbiont Teredinibacter turnerae [T7902.sup.T] is demonstrated. CelAB exhibits two catalytic and two carbohydrate-binding domains which are separated by polyserine linker regions.
