Factors affecting survival of northern Pintail ducklings in Alberta
Article Abstract:
The brood-rearing success of female Northern Pintail ducks has been considered, and duckling survival was related to maternal and environmental attributes. The study area was the Kitsim Ducks Unlimited Project land near Brooks, Alberta, Canada. Duckling survival on Kitsim was found to be higher than reported for pintails in Alaska, with early hatched young tending to survive better.

Effects of hatching date and egg size on growth, recruitment, and adult size of lesser scaup
Article Abstract:
Issues concerning the relationship between the date of hatching and the size of eggs in ducks are discussed. Particular attention is given to the increased size of eggs hatched early in the season and increased mortality of ducklings from small eggs.
