An essential role in liver development for transcription factor XBP-1
Article Abstract:
Transcription factor XBP-1, a CREB/ATF family transcription factor highly expressed in hepatocellular carcinomas, has been found to have an essential role in liver development. Mice without XBP-1 had hypoplastic fetal livers and low hematopoiesis and died of anemia. However, SBP-1-deficient hemotopoietic progenitors had no cell-autonomous defect in differentiation. Hepatocyte development was greatly impaired though.

Fra-1 replaces c-Fos-dependent functions in mice
Article Abstract:
Fra-1 has been found to replace c-Fos-dependent functions in mice. Studies with knock out and transgenic mice and structure-function analysis have been used to show two distinct functions for cFos and Fra1, components of the transcription factor activator protein-1 (AP-1). It was seen that Fra-q and c-Fos have kept functional equivalence in vertebrate evolution.

Failure of megakaryopoiesis and arrested erythropoiesis in mice lacking the GATA-1 transcriptional cofactor FOG
Article Abstract:
GATA transcription factors are necessary for differentiation of assorted cell types in various species. It seems that biologic activities may be changed by interaction with multitype zinc finger proteins, among them Friend of GATA-1 (FOG). In cultured cells, FOG works with the hematopoietic transcription factor GATA-1 to bring about erythroid and megakaryocytic differentiation. There is failure of megakaryopoiesis and a hindrance of erythropoiesis in mice without FOG. It appears that FOG and other GOF-like proteins serve as complex cofactors that act via GATA-dependent and GATA-independent mechanisms.
