Familial resemblance in fatness and fat distribution
Article Abstract:
Resemblances within families regarding obese physiology are examined, using body mass index, skinfold sums, and waist circumference as comparative standards. Results indicate significant resemblance in fatness and fat distribution within family groups.

Familial risk of high blood pressure in the Canadian population
Article Abstract:
Familial risk for high blood pressure was found to be significant in a study of a representative sample of the Canadian population, with both environmental and genetic factors probably contributing to the observed risk. Data from 5,753 families from the 1981 Canada Fitness Survey were used in the study.

Evidence for at least two major loci influencing human fatness
Article Abstract:
Bivariate segregation analysis of data on body-mass index (BMI) and fat mass (FM) from the Quebec Family Study suggests two pleiotropic recessive loci accounting for 64% of the variance in BMI and 47% of the variance in FM. The data for 1,630 individuals from about 300 families was analyzed using the Pedigree Analysis Package. The second major locus affects variation in the normal weight range, while the primary major locus affects extreme overweight.
