Fusarium subglutinans f. sp. pini represents a distinct mating population in the Gibberella fujikuroi species complex
Article Abstract:
Field isolates of Fusarium subglutinans f. sp. pini have been studied to find out if they belong to a new or previously described mating population of Gibberella fujikuroi. The isolates from California and Florida have been tested to verify if they can be cross-fertilized with South African tester strains. The Pini strain has been reported to cause pitch canker in Pinus species. Results indicate that the Pini strains cannot be cross-fertilized with six of the seven mating populations of G. fujikuroi. This finding suggests that Pini isolates represent a new mating population of G. fujikuroi.

Dipstick enzyme immunoassay to detect Fusarium T-2 toxin in wheat
Article Abstract:
A dipstick enzyme immunoassay developed to detect T-2 toxin efficiently spots Fusarium T-2 toxin in wheat. The technique involves the incubation of the dipstick in a mixture of T-2 toxin-horseradish peroxidase and the sample conjugate after coating the dipsticks with antibody. The dipstick strips are analyzed for color in a H2O2-3,3',5,5'-tetramethybenzidine substrate solution containing a chromogen. The technique takes 45 min to detect the toxin and the detection limits in buffer solution are 0.25 ng/ml.

Production of (14C) fumonisin B1 by Fusarium moniliforme MRC 826 in corn cultures
Article Abstract:
A method developed to obtain the kinetics of growth and fumonism production by Fusarium moniliforme MRC 826 in corn patty cultures showed that a significant (p < 0.01) correlation exists between fungal growth and C-14 fumonisim B1 (r = 0.89) and FB2 (r=0.87) production, starting after 2 days and reaching the stationary phase after 14 days of incubation.
