Gene centromere mapping of six enzyme loci in gynogenetic channel catfish
Article Abstract:
Recombination estimates between six enzyme loci and their centromeres in gynogenetic channel catfish are presented. The parent females were heterozygous for 1 to 3 enzyme loci, allowing gene-centromere distance estimation for the six loci. Recombination estimates ranged from 36 to 100%. The frequency of heterozygotes from two families exceeded the expected crossover rate. No evidence for linkage among pairs of the six loci was detected. Evidence for differential survival of alternate homozygous classes was not found.

Inheritance and variation of genome size in half-sib families of hybrid catfishes
Article Abstract:
Genome size variation in half-sibling hybrid catfish families was investigated using high-resolution flow cytometry. Results show that hybrid offspring has the average genome size the parental strains. This indicates the haploid number determines DNA segregation which is stable among intergeneric hybrids and that genome size can be a criterion in the determination of hybrids in populations. Further, variation in genome size in the group studied is small, indicating conservation throughout evolution.

Replication banding and sister-chromatid exchange of chromosomes of channel catfish (Ictalurus punctatus)
Article Abstract:
A replication banding method employing fluorouracil and bromodeoxyuridine was developed for cultured leukocytes of channel catfish (Ictalurus punctatus). Analyzable banding patterns were found on chromosomes stained with a fluorochrome plus Giemsa method. Banding patterns of representative chromosomes including those with nucleolus organizer regions were reproducible. A standard RBG-banded karyotype was determined with idiograms of each chromosome.
